Architecting Analytic Warehouses for Analytics
This session answers architecture questions related to the overall structure and strategy for an enterprise analytics system. How do we design a data warehouse for analytics purposes? What do we integrate into a central warehouse or maintain in separate data marts? How do we integrate long term storage systems that we need to query only occasionally? How do we integrate real-time data streaming? What ETL and integration strategies and tools are we going to use? Where and how do we extend our raw data with calculated measures and analytic functions? How do we create a system that has a strong foundation, but can grow and evolve over time? This presentation will draw from real-world data architecture projects that were designed with analytics in mind. Included will be a discussion of considerations when designing for Autonomous Data Warehouses.

Oracle Cloud Powered Smart Airports, On-Time Departure Machine Learning Solution
Fourteen million flights are expected by 2035 in Europe alone. As highlighted by Eurocontrol (European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation), unless new solutions are implemented by increasingly capacity-constrained hubs, 1.5 million flights will not be accommodated by 2040, resulting in 160 million passengers stranded or delayed, more time wasted in the air, on the ground with consequently extra ecological costs. In partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), OSCARS provides location-intelligent solutions through its Geo-Intelligent Platform (GIP). The added value of GIP integrated Machine Learning is to successfully forecast spatiotemporal events and thus provide the various airport personas, on-time performance predictions, ensuring arrival delays are positively transformed into on-time departures thanks to the sophisticated combination of advanced deep learning architectures, delivered on the Oracle Cloud, that embrace Oracle Spatial and Streaming Technologies.

Using Blockchain technology for US Navy logistics challenges.
US Navy has a presence worldwide. Maintaining a steady supply of goods for ships is a major challenge. This study considers the use of Blockchain technologies to streamline transactions. While there are many parallel Blockchain technologies the focus is on the Oracle version. Blockchain is a tamper-resistant decentralized database used in many security applications to provide proof of transaction where trust is implemented through distributed consensus and not centralized policy enforcement. Logistics performance can be reduced by administrative friction caused by audit requirements, trust issues (from generated financial transactions), and other admin processes. Could Blockchain simplify and enable access, and identity management for the supply and logistics systems in a cost-effective manner?

UX of AI
As the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) proliferates, the field of UX design must shift to understand the possibilities, limitations, and biases of this technology. Oracle’s recent commitment to the Redwood initiative is placing the focus on the user experience design across the breadth of Oracle’s products. The emergence of AI and ML represents an opportunity to apply design that utilizes AI to provide experiences for users that are insightful, informed, and adaptable to user behavior. This new opportunity change’s design’s role. The experiences must evolve and change as we understand users and their behavior. Design can no longer be constrained by past experiences. Instead the user experience must be indeterminate, responsive, and receptive to change. In order to frame how to approach this opportunity the session will propose strategies, mental models, and frameworks to design the UX of AI.

Smart REC using Blockchain and OAC
There has been a tremendous drive globally for usage of renewable energy to meet our demands for electricity. With dwindling amounts of fossil fuels and the increasing rate of environment degradation, we are at the verge of a global environment catastrophe. However, things seem to be shaping up with the advent of solar farms, wind mills and hydro-electric projects that take a substantial burden off the environment and at the same time help produce sufficient electricity. International laws mandate that an REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) be issued to any person/industry producing 1MWh of electricity through renewable sources. These RECs can then be traded for money. Currently, there are regulatory authorities that validate the claims of generation in a very traditional approach involving ledgers. This session showcases a more secure and trustworthy solution with OAC and Blockchain that ensures proper validation of RECs submitted by the producer.

(HOL) Property Graph from scratch: data sources to graphs
Graphs are one of the leading trends, Gartner identify graph analytics as an emerging technology people should experiment with over the next year. Many sessions cover the property graphs topic and what they can do and how graph analytics is powerful. Some cover the technical aspects of what product has support for property graphs. What is still missing? A simple thing as 'how to start?'.How does one create a property graph? What tools are needed? How to integrate property graphs with the existing tools and data flows? (database, files, Kafka streams etc.) This hands-on training will cover that gap between theory and graph analytics: how to get started, how to integrate things. From nothing to a graph first, to cover the basis. Moving to how to load a property graph in an Oracle Database and how to use it for graph analysis later. There will also be an introduction of the Java client and the REST interface, to provide all the tools for attendees to design and build graphs.

Scaling R and Python for the Enterprise
Open source environments such as R and Python offer tremendous value to data scientists and developers. Scalability and performance on large data sets, however, is not their forte. Memory constraints and single-threaded execution can significantly limit their value for enterprise use. With Oracle Machine Learning's R and Python interfaces to Oracle Database, users can take their use of R and Python to the next level—deploying for enterprise use on large data sets with ease. This session introduces the key functional areas of OML4R and OML4Py and demonstrates how to get the best combination of open source and Oracle Database.

Constructing a Large ADW Graph on Railroad Data & Visualizing that Graph in OAC
To gain experience and grow skills with the Spatial & Graph library that is now available in Oracle's Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW), we have built a network graph on top of railroad data that the government of India makes available at https://data.gov.in/resources/indian-railways-time-table-trains-available-reservation-01112017. We suspect that our experiences will be of interest to others desiring to build a large ADW graph for other use-cases in other industries, and the following provides a progress report with lessons learnt.

The movements of the many trains that travel across this railroad network also trace a graph whose nodes are train stations and whose edges are the connecting railroad segments. The transactional input data details the motions of roughly 10K distinct trains as they execute about 200K trips along 20K distinct rail segments that connect 10K railroad stations, all in a single day in India. So our first step is to compose an Oracle Machine Learning (OML) notebook that distills that transactional input data down to two aggregate ADW tables: one table listing the 10K nodes and their summed properties (total number of trains visiting each station & number of edges radiating from each station), and an edges table containing 20K records detailing mean train speed and distance between adjacent stations. Building the graph in ADW is then a blissfully simple SQL one-liner.

We then compose another OML notebook to ask the usual sorts of questions of this graph, such as: what is the shortest path (time-wise and distance-wise) connecting two arbitrary stations. The resulting path is then decorated with all adjacent stations that are one or two train-rides away, with those results then exposed to Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) as derived ADW tables. Note that the graph of the entire India railroad network is too large to visualize in OAC (the 10K edges and nodes overwhelms an OAC canvas), so we used a variety of methods to filter this graph in a way that extracts this railroad network's main artery containing the busiest nodes and edges.

This effort's final task will be to sprinkle this ADW graph with numerous virtual traveling agents, and to train a machine-learning algorithm to direct the movements of these agents across this graph in a way that maximizes the virtual rewards gathered by these agents while minimizing travel time and expense. Progress achieved on this final task will be reported at conference time, where we will also show how our solution to this Pacman-like problem is relevant to ADW users in sales and finance.

Using Graphs To Analyze Customer Networks and Detect Fraud at Paysafe
Paysafe provides simple and secure payment solutions to businesses of all sizes around the world, processing billions of payment dollars a year. This, combined with the focus of flawless customer experience and real-time money transfer, makes it a candidate for the “dark side” of the payments industry: fraudsters, money launderers, etc. With traditional data storage techniques such as relational technologies, it is almost impossible to see beyond individual accounts to the connections between them. In this session see how Paysafe implemented the property graph technologies in Oracle Spatial and Graph and Oracle Database, including its fast, built-in, in-memory graph analytics, to perform fast graph queries that identify patterns of fraud.A network is made of user accounts linked by shared characteristics – shared cards, devices, ips. Paysafe will share how analyzing and visualizing a heterogeneous graph of accounts and shared characteristics, can help identify customer networks. We will dive into network growth evaluation and see how it can help distinguish normal vs fraudulent network.

Graph-powered Automated Healthcare Services
The primary value that Graph data model brings to Healthcare services is to aggregate information from various heterogeneous data sources (e.g., Electronic Medical Records from Medical Data Centers or publicly-available Disease-Symptoms relations) whereas Machine Learning provides the ability to process such huge volume of medical data and learn meaningful underlying patterns or latent relationships. In this talk, we will explain how Oracle Labs and Oracle HS-GBU employ a combination of graph and machine learning techniques to develop efficient Healthcare Services. These healthcare services enable multiple crucial medical objectives like (a) matching Rare Patients with Clinical Trials (considerably important for Cancer treatments), as well as (b) searching for Similar Patients from a Medical Database based on previous medical records of the patients.

Graph-powered Cyber-Security Intelligence
Graph-powered Cyber-security intelligence has recently drawn a lot of attention with the emergence of the Cloud era. Cloud applications generate huge volume of logs which are essential for threat detection and investigation. While such massive volume of data enables to accurately detect multiple threats, the data heterogeneity introduced by multiple data sources makes it challenging to analyze data in the tabular data model. Graph data model bridges the limitation by connecting heterogeneous entities via relationships. In this talk, we present how graph technology enables us to build a smarter and deeper cyber-security intelligence. Specifically, we demonstrate how Oracle Labs PGX and Data Studio enable (a) SaaS Cloud Security team to do in-depth analysis of security alerts with visualization and threat hunting from multiple heterogeneous logs, and (b) ODC Moat team to develop an effective Invalid Traffic Detection model by leveraging features extracted from underlying graph.

Blending Spatio-temporal data for effective business change management
Data mining is the key driving process in any business world. Data is available in many forms and one such data set is spatio-temporal (ST) data, which has both spatial (Geographic) and temporal (Time) component. Spatial data is analyze on various levels like, zip codes, census tract, state, geocode, etc. Temporal data captures various data points per observation over time line. Both these dimensional data provides significant correlation and make the analysis more effective. However, we should keep an eye on the existence of autocorrelation in ST, before blending with another data set to remove bias. In this use case, we can see how using Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) as data source and blending the spatio-temporal data in Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC, for visualization) gives an immense opportunity for businesses to adopt change management effectively.

Using Oracle Graph for Analyzing Monetary Transfer Data
Our client, one of the biggest private banks in Turkey, was encountering difficulties in analyzing Customer Monetary Relation between each other with conventional data analysis tools. Although they have almost all kind of data analysis tools, analyzing connected data like money transfers, cheque payments for both inbound and outbound directions was a big problem to see who is directly or indirectly connected to whom, is there any cyclic money transfers that can cause a part of fraud activity, or any other money transfers that can be a part of finance of terrorism activities. And their Data Management Division discovered that these are questions in the scope of Graph technologies. Since they are an important and long time partner of Oracle, they preferred to perform these analyses with Oracle Spatial & Graph in RDBMS 12c Exadata Cloud environment. The main reasons in choosing Oracle S&G included: In Memory Graph queries, algorithm execution advantages with PGX with PGQL, and less data transfer costs.

A Whole New Ballgame--How Analytics are Transforming America's Pastime]
The San Francisco Giants are the most successful major league baseball franchise of the past decade, winning three world championships over a five-year span. This success on the field translated to wins in the box office, as well, with a 530 game sellout streak—the second longest in MLB history. But in recent years, the formula that brought the Giants this unprecedented success hasn’t yielded the same results. With a new EVP of Baseball Operations, new General Manager, new Field Manager and a new name (Oracle!) on their iconic ballpark, change is the only constant. Longtime CIO, Bill Schlough, who has experienced all of the highs and lows over his 20+ year tenure with the team, will share the story of how analytics are driving this transformation—and will ultimately help bring another championship to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park.

The Changing Role of DBA: From Database Developer to Data Scientist in 6 Weeks
DBAs spend time dealing with maintenance, security and outage issues with little time for innovation. Self-driving, self-securing and self-repairing Autonomous Databases free data professionals to leverage domain knowledge and data skills to extract more value from their data. Oracle Machine Learning, part of Autonomous Database, “moves the algorithms to the data” for in-database processing of machine learning algorithms that eliminate data movement. Now, the entire machine learning process: problem statement, data understanding and preparation, model building and evaluation, model apply and model deployment runs inside the Oracle Database. Database developers perform many supporting tasks today, typically 80% of the work, but refer to them as ETL, data wrangling, data transformations and productionizing scripts. Come learn how ADW, ATP and Oracle Machine Learning makes it easy for you to easily expand your valuable data skills and become “data scientists” in just 6 weeks!

Graphs in Oracle - RDF vs LPG
The popularity of Graph databases is rapidly increasing across all types of applications and industries. More and more people are curious how they can tap into the capabilities these technologies can bring. Some are looking at new ways to manage the explosive volumes of data with real-time query response times and others are looking at using Graph algorithms for pattern recognition. Which use cases Graph databases are particularly useful for and what business value they can deliver is not always easy to understand. One needs to know what type of Graph database is applicable for which use case and how this decision impacts implementation. Oracle offers Graph Database features in different flavors: Labelled Property Graph (LPG) and Resource Descriptive Framework (RDF) graphs. In this talk we will introduce them both and highlight some real life use cases.

Making Sense of and Taking Control of Enterprise Content Silos
With the growing need for volumes of data required by ML and Knowledge Bases, copying/duplicating potentially Petabytes of data is a real problem. Working with data 'in situ' is fast becoming the only viable pattern for enterprises. Additionally, heterogenous data silos are a given for big enterprises and aren't going away. Finally, incorporating 3rd party taxonomies/ontologies/datasets for enrichment are yet another example of datasources that need to be incorporated and orchestrated. This suggests the need for a hybrid approach for Knowledge Management. With careful architecture, this is where Semantic Knowledge Graphs can really shine, and in particular Oracle's implementation of Semantic Graph technology. Further, moving to the cloud offers real long-term advantages.

Automating the Machine Learning Process - Fact, Fiction, and Features
The data science process can be highly iterative. Popular methodologies, such as CRISP-DM, have iterative loops built in, especially for data preparation, and model building and evaluation. Fortunately, a significant part of this process can be automated. Such automation not only improves data scientist productivity by addressing some of the more time iterative aspects of data science, but also enables non-experts to leverage machine learning even if they do not know the finer details of the algorithms and their settings. Still, such automation doesn't eliminate the need for competent machine learning skills.

In this session, you will learn about the ML process and what is reasonable to automate today and what still requires the human touch. Learn about the automation provided in Oracle Machine Learning, including automatic data preparation (ADP), automated text processing, automated partitioned models, and automated machine learning (AutoML). The latter focusing on algorithm selection, data feature selection, and ultimate hyperparameter tuning. These capabilities will be highlighted through a series of examples using the SQL, R, and Python APIs. These features all help to reduce the effort, and in some cases, knowledge, required to go from business problem to business solution using machine learning.

Enhancing Statistical Discovery with Oracle RDF on Oracle Cloud
The National Statistics Center of Japan (NSTAC) is responsible for managing and publishing a wide variety of official statistics data in Japan, serving national and local government agencies, and the wider public. NSTAC developed the Linked Open Data (LOD) platform in 2016 with Oracle RDF Graph to support search and discovery of major statistics data such as the population census. With greater public awareness, usage of LOD increased, and published RDF triples increased to 2 billion. This created a need to improve SPARQL performance and publish a wide range of statistics in RDF format. As a solution for high volume and performance, NSTAC migrated the platform to Oracle Cloud, including Database Cloud Service with the Database In-Memory option. This improved SPARQL performance improved by 60x, and significantly expanded processing capacity.Sample applications were also developed for users unfamiliar with SPARQL. In this session, we will describe the use case and technologies.

Improving models for Oracle Machine Learning using Knowledge Graphs
What AI requires are disambiguated, highly relevant, and specific, integrated data, flowing to the point of need. What it often gets are single-batch sets, cleaned up to be just good enough, often done manually. Data Scientists are said to spend 80% of their time with clean-up tasks. Often, we have to work with too abstract, disconnected data models that can't keep pace with market dynamics. Semantically enriched data serves as a basis for better data quality and provides more options for feature extraction. IT infrastructure that moves data to the algorithms and applications is failing. Data centric designs do away with these bottlenecks. Semantic AI is the combination of methods derived from symbolic AI and statistical AI. It is not only focused on process automation, but also on intelligence augmentation. We'll outline the path towards self-optimizing machines by demonstrating the interoperability of Knowledge Graph and ML algorithms for better performance and scale.

Easy ML for everybody in OAC: how good is compared to hand-made code?
Augmented Analytics is the new buzzword. OAC offers access to ML techniques in few clicks. Not a single line of code has to be written: load a dataset, click through the screen to setup a ML model and few more clicks to train and apply it to any other dataset you could have. Machine Learning couldn't be as simple and easy of access as that. The easiest way to democratize ML. Anyone can do ML, without having to go through linear algebra, various theoretical concepts and code to implement it. But does it really work? Can something as accessible as that be as effective as machine learning done by code? Analysing the dataset, doing features engineering and finally training a model to be able to apply to new data later. This session will use the same exact dataset and compare how ML can be done in OAC and in Python (using an Apache Zeppelin or Jupyter notebook). The results of the ML model will be compared to see how the two methods compare in accuracy.

Delivering Custom Machine Learning Solutions to Enterprises
Enterprises [Big and Small] store their content in Oracle Content and Experience [OCE] enabling them to build rich channel agnostic experiences [Web, Email, Chat etc]. As an Intelligent Content Platform for these enterprises we need to understand their specialized content better to help improve content discoverabilty. In this session, we will cover how we are leveraging Oracle Machine Learning [OML] platform to enable: Customization of machine learning models seamlessly with a handful of tagged images from the enterprises [a tire is not just tagged as 'tire' but the specific type of tire, or a shoe as the specific shoe depending on the enterprise].Taking discoverabilty a step forward, instead of tagging a image as 'shoe', what if we can hotspot the shoe, and make it shoppable right from the image? We will describe how we are leveraging OML object detection techniques to make Shoppable content a reality for our Enterprise customers.

Querying property graphs using PGQL
PGQL (Property Graph Query Language) is an SQL-like language to query property graphs in Oracle’s graph products. Aligned with the emerging SQL/PGQ standard, PGQL allows for expressing complex graph patterns in an intuitive way. We will start with an introduction, walk through examples that illustrate how complex patterns can be represented in simple PGQL syntax, and show how PGQL queries can be used with built-in graph algorithms like PageRank. We will highlight additions to the language over the past twelve months, such as new syntax to create graphs from database tables.

Security and Privacy for Big Data Analytics -- the good, the bad, and the ugly
Today everyone understands the high value of data insights - the “new gold” of 21st century. To deliver business insights we need to collect the data (from various heterogonies data sources), store it efficiently (usually in a Data Lake), and processed it fast (real time or historical trends). The four Vs of the data (volume, variety, velocity, and veracity) already present their own challenges, but the 5th V - value – is only possible if the data is properly secured and protected at every step of the way. Alternatively, the value will turn against us and instead of benefits the same valuable data could bring us serious troubles. This session will provide an overview of the global security and privacy requirements for data acquisition, storage, and processing, as well as the most common paths for achieving proper security posture for data and analytics. We will review some of the most common data exposures and share some hands-on experience in applying the security best practices.

How to develop Graph Database applications with SQL/PGQ
Property graphs enjoy an ever-increasing popularity in applications that deal with connected components of all varieties; e.g., social networks, fraud detection, etc. Today there are a number of stand-alone languages used with Property Graphs including Apache Tinkerpop Gremlin, Neo4j Cypher, Tigergraph GSQL and Oracle PGQL as well as a proposal for another stand-alone language under consideration by ISO, GQL. It is well known that SQL is the most widely used database language and is the language of choice for database application developers. To support graph creation and querying, the ISO SQL 202x standard will include new extensions for graph databases, SQL/PGQ. We will show how SQL/PGQ will integrate with SQL to allow users to define property graphs based on data stored in existing tables and to query those graphs. The query part will use a combination of familiar SQL as well as a new built-in operator, which significantly simplifies typical graph queries compared to existing SQL.

DPP: Data Preprocessing Pipeline Tool For Enhanced IoT Prognostic ML Use Cases
There are increasing requests from customers for advanced prognostic ML techniques for predictive maintenance use cases for many industrial segments Oracl serves. The greatest challenges for applying any types of Oracle (or 3rd party) ML techniques for time-series prognostics do not have to do with the technique selected (including NNs, SVMs, Kernel Regression, MSET2, etc). Rather, the greatest challenges have to do with sensor and signal issues that occur across all IoT industries... e.g. disparate sampling rates, missing values, quantized signals, decalibration bias in sensors, and many others that will be presented. OracleLabs has developed a suite of Oracle-patented algorithms that detect and autonomously correct these and other common sensor and signal challenges. These Intelligent Data Preprocessing algorithms have been incorporated into a new Data Preprocessing Pipeline (DPP) tool/framework that will be presented with numerous examples from real industrial use cases.

Building robust and scalable event-driven microservices in the Oracle database
We see a proliferation of data streams being generated by applications, devices, web, processes, etc. which need to be processed, stored, analyzed securely and at scale. There are many technologies to address these event streams, but the key is to recognize that event-driven action is the end goal of these event streams. Once can think of event-driven workflows in ERP, CRM, HCM that have event flows, traditionally using JMS messaging or streaming news, sensor data, social media posts to a varied set of subscribers with Apache Kafka.

Often there are tough architecture choices for setting up the infrastructure, operating it, tuning it, upgrading it, scaling it. In this talk we present the simplicity of setting up Transactional Event Queues in the Oracle database which brings the best of JMS messaging and Kafka produce/consume with transactions that combine data and events delivered with notifications, ideal to build scalable microservices with a multi-model, multi-tenant architecture

Spatial-temporal Analysis with Oracle Spatial and Python
Python is hugely popular for data analysis, including geospatial data. The ecosystem of specialized geospatial Python libraries continues to grow and evolve, providing a powerful toolkit for developers to supplement the spatial features of Oracle Spatial and Graph. Spatial-temporal analyses uses specialized algorithms to answer questions such as 'Is the change over time in traffic accidents for an area related to the change over time in nearby areas?', and 'Are historical traffic accidents clustered in both location and time?'. Spatial-temporal analyses then uses these results to predict the likelihood of potential future outcomes. This session will cover the basics of using Python with Oracle Spatial and then demonstrate a spatial-temporal use case based on a historical dataset of nationwide traffic accidents.
